Spike Pulse: Multimedia in Real Time

A new dimension for light, sound and effects on the roller coaster

Summary

Spike Pulse

Spike Pulse turns the vehicle and track into one synchronized show system. Onboard LEDs, audio and track lighting respond directly to the vehicle’s actual position and speed. Optional displays and special effects can be added to suit the project and its theme.

Unlike a conventional show sequence, Spike Pulse does not simply start at a predefined trigger point and continue on a fixed timeline. The system continuously adapts the media to the movement of the vehicle. Acceleration, speed and position therefore shape what guests see and hear throughout the ride.

Light, sound and movement as one experience

Vehicle LEDs and track lights work together to create coordinated effects along the entire route. Light can follow the vehicle, highlight acceleration or mark the moment of a launch. Audio and additional effects can reinforce the same movement.

The technical package can be configured for each installation. This allows operators and designers to create a distinct experience while using the same proven Spike platform.

Synchronized through Software-Defined Dynamics

Spike Pulse builds on Software-Defined Dynamics, the control principle behind the Spike platform. The rack-and-pinion drive provides positive mechanical engagement, while the control system continuously tracks and manages the vehicle’s movement.

The multimedia system uses this ride data in real time. Instead of running alongside the coaster on a separate timeline, the show follows the vehicle itself. Even if the speed or timing of the ride changes, the media remain synchronized.

Light, sound and effects respond directly to the movement of the vehicle.

Built for interaction

The real-time connection also supports interactive experiences. Guest inputs and events during the ride can immediately influence lighting, sound or other effects.

Possible applications include dueling sequences visualized through the track lights or the Ghost Rider option, in which guests compete against a virtual opponent. The interaction can be adapted to the concept and storytelling of each project.

A new experience layer on proven technology

Spike Pulse uses the same track, drive and control architecture as the other products on the Spike platform. The multimedia system adds an experience layer without changing the proven technical foundation.

This combination makes it possible to create a distinctive new attraction while building on established platform technology. The first Spike Pulse installation is already under construction.
